Honoring Heritage, Designing Tomorrow
지구촌 교회의 창립 50주년을 맞이하여, 저희 팀은 교회가 걸어온 은혜의 발자취를 존중하며 앞으로의 50년을 준비하는 “GMC Modernization”을 제안했습니다. 1979년 첫 성전 건축 이후 지역 사회의 신앙 거점이 되어온 지구촌 교회의 역사적 가치를 보존함과 동시에, 변화하는 시대적 요구에 발맞춘 새로운 공간 비전을 담았습니다. 이는 단순한 노후 시설의 보수(Renovation)를 넘어, 교회의 본질적인 정체성을 현대적인 건축 언어로 새롭게 정의하는 과정입니다.
To honor the 50th anniversary of Global Mission Church, our team proposed "GMC Modernization," a visionary roadmap for the next 50 years. Recognizing the church's historical significance as a spiritual cornerstone since 1979, we sought to preserve its rich heritage while redefining its sacred spaces through a contemporary lens. Our proposal moves beyond simple renovation, focusing on a strategic modernization that aligns the church’s physical environment with its evolving mission.

세대간의 장벽을 허무는 ‘연결의건축’
Architecture as a Bridge for Connection
우리는 공간이 사역의 도구가 되어야 한다는 믿음으로, 성도들 사이의 물리적·심리적 거리를 좁히는 데 디자인의 초점을 맞췄습니다.
Open & Connect: 협소했던 로비를 성도들의 따뜻한 소통이 피어나는 ‘커뮤니티 라운지’로 확장하고, 층간 동선을 유기적으로 개선하여 모든 세대가 자유롭게 어우러지도록 설계했습니다.
Inclusive Ministry: EM 및 타문화권 회중을 위한 독립적 예배 공간과 다음 세대의 창의성을 자극하는 교육 환경을 배치하여, 다양성이 공존하는 현대적인 사역 모델을 공간화했습니다.
Modern Sanctuary: 본당과 대강당에 최신 공간 디자인 기술을 적용하여, 경건함과 쾌적함이 공존하는 현대적 성소로의 변화를 제안했습니다.
We believe that architecture should be an active tool for ministry. Our design focuses on narrowing the distance between generations and cultures.
Enhanced Fellowship: We proposed expanding the lobby into a vibrant "Community Lounge" and improving vertical circulation to foster seamless interaction among all congregants.
Global & Next-Gen Infrastructure: By designing dedicated, modern spaces for EM/Multicultural congregations and innovative learning environments for the youth, we aimed to create a facility that reflects the church's global identity.
Sanctuary Evolution: Our team proposed a sophisticated modernization of the main halls, utilizing modern aesthetics and technology to provide a sanctuary that is both solemn and comfortable.

A Stewardship-Driven Phased Strategy
우리는 건축주의 상황과 사역의 연속성을 깊이 고려하여, 다섯 단계에 걸친 ‘Phased Modernization’ 이행 전략을 수립했습니다. 로비와 1층 교육 공간에서 시작하여(Phase 1), 다문화 예배 공간(Phase 2)과 어린이 교회(Phase 3), 그리고 본당 및 대강당의 완성(Phase 4, 5)으로 이어지는 로드맵을 통해, 지혜롭고 내실 있는 공간의 변화를 꾀했습니다. 이 프로젝트를 통해 지구촌 교회가 세대와 문화를 아우르는 역동적인 신앙 공동체로 거듭나기를 희망합니다.
To ensure both fiscal responsibility and ministry continuity, we developed a five-stage "Phased Modernization" plan. This step-by-step roadmap—moving from the lobby and educational wings (Phase 1-3) to the final refinement of the Sanctuary and Auditorium (Phase 4-5)—allows for a thoughtful and sustainable transformation. Our vision is for Global Mission Church to stand as a dynamic hub of faith, where tradition and innovation coexist to serve future generations.
